B46 / B48 / B58 engines feature an innovative cooling system with the intercooler built directly into the intake manifold. This setup is cooled by a separate, front-mounted water radiator, commonly referred to as a heat exchanger or chargecooler radiator. For stock or lightly tuned setups, the factory radiator performs well enough, so upgrading it may seem unnecessary. However, if you’re aiming for higher power levels with Stage 2 or Stage 3 tuning, or driving aggressively enough to cause heat soak in warm climates, upgrading to a high-performance heat exchanger can make a noticeable difference. Typically (especially if the wheels are original), you might want to use slightly thicker spacers for the rear than for the front (e.g. 15 mm for the front and 20 mm for the rear).
